Erika Haga L.Ac., Dipl.O.M

Born in Tokyo, Japan, I was raised with the influence of Eastern Asian medical theory and philosophy. My passion has always been in medicine and healing, and I have always wanted to be a healthcare practitioner. I moved to the US during my teenage years and have lived in Massachusetts and Hawaii most of my adult life, devoting my time to studying the sciences, medicine, and healing arts.

I am a licensed acupuncturist and board certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I am a faculty member of the Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii, teaching both in classrooms and working in the school clinic. I have a private practice in which I see patients for a variety of health conditions and disease prevention.

I received my graduate degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown, MA.  This comprehensive graduate program encompassed Western and Eastern Medical studies. After graduation, I began my studies in Tokyo to further my knowledge in the Traditional and Classical Japanese Acupuncture. I continue my education by learning from my teachers, self-studies, and attending various seminars.

Prior to a graduate program in Oriental Medicine, I studied at Mount Holyoke College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience and Behavior, and Medical Anthropology. Upon graduation, I have performed and coordinated various brain research studies at McLean Hospital, the Harvard Medical School's Teaching Hospital located in Belmont, MA.

Before moving to the Big Island, I practiced acupuncture in a number of settings in Massachusetts including Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (Jamaica Plain, MA), Dimock Community Health Center (Roxbury, MA), Pathways to Wellness and AIDS Care Project (Boston, MA) and Winchester Hospital (Wilmington MA). Working in these various settings has given me clinical expertise in treating various conditions and disease prevention.

I believe that the patient should play an active role in their healing process; therefore, I am very happy to give advice regarding diet and life style, explain my diagnosis and treatment, and provide a safe space for us to share, discuss, and work together to achieve your optimal health. My treatment is gentle and blends various modalities to accommodate individual needs to promote good health. It is my goal to facilitate optimal health and well being for you, your family, and friends through the Traditional Chinese Medicine.
